Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Trinamool Congress has been accused of threatening opposition candidates to withdraw their nomination after the violence over nomination in West Bengal Panchayat elections. A public interest litigation has been filed in the Calcutta HC on Monday regarding the threat of withdrawal of nomination.
The petitioner has demanded that the nomination day should be extended by at least one day. Apart from this, there was also a court order regarding the police security of the candidates, but it was not followed, due to which many opposition candidates could not file their nominations.
Calcutta High Court lawyer Shamim Ahmed attracted the attention of the court by filing a public interest litigation. After that the Division Bench of the Chief Justice gave permission to file the case.
On the other hand, in Tarapith of Birbhum district, BJP supporters protested in front of Tarapith police station against false cases and police pressure on BJP candidates to withdraw their nomination papers.
Alleged on behalf of BJP that the candidates are being implicated in false cases and they are being arrested. Various local BJP candidates and workers including district BJP leadership are present.
